Arrival

Tuesday, August 6

Entering Utah, just south of Kanab

Click here for today's pics.

Very long day of travel.  Up at 4am EDT, rolled into Kanab at 7pm MDT.  Thought kids were going to rebel when after the long flight, they were reminded of the 3:20 car ride in front of us.

Nevada was desolate.  Who arrived there and said "not only should we live here, we should build an entertainment mecca!"?  The scenery started to improve in Arizona where we started to get an idea of what we'll be seeing in Zion.  Rented a Jeep Wrangler.  Perfect.

Quail Park Lodge is puny, but great.  Clean rooms, welcoming staff, retro decor.  The pool is about the size of our minivan, but it was good enough for the kids.

Quote of the day
Karen: [Driving near the strip] We're not going to see Vegas today, we'll be back and see it at the end of our trip.
Brady: We're not going to see Vegas, we're going to do Vegas.  [clap clap]  Get out your wallets, guys!

How he knows to say something like that, we have no idea.  He must sneak downstairs for some late night TV after we go to bed.

Finished off the day with a beautiful sunset behind our lodge.

  2. 100 in Vegas - really hot and windy, and the wind was hot. Callie said, is their wind always like this? Cooler here in Kanab - high 80's when we got here. Comfortable. Today was unseasonably cool - 69 was the high at the Grand Canyon and without much sun and a bit of rain, it felt cold. Perfect for hiking as far as we were concerned!
